Celebrating you, Sweet Girl, is the most wonderful thing! You are sweetness, you are joy, you are giggles, you are filled to the brim with wonder, just as we have prayed for you before you were even born.

We had to have a ONEderful birthday party celebrating you!

A ONEderful birthday party with fun and color and magic! And I wanted to make absolutely as much as I could for it to make it special – from the decorations to the cake, because, you know, I helped make YOU!

This week while rocking you to sleep in your sweet little baby nursery and thinking about how you were about to be one year old, I was wondering about life – the simple ability to live. I thought of the first moment you were put into my arms. I held you and kissed the top of your head and I can remember every detail of that moment. I thought of moment after moment after that of you in my arms – the first time you opened your sleepy eyes to look at us that first day, the first smile you gave me while I held you by the dining room window and how I made funny faces at you over and over just to see that smile again. You in my arms sleeping, crying, smiling, giggling, bouncing, wriggling. Here was my sweet girl – life that I have held in my arms for a year now.

What a wonder!

To have life, to experience life, to be alive, to open your sleepy eyes in the morning and realize you are alive – it is a wonder before the day even unfolds. May you never take that for granted.

The way we experience life is extraordinary, absolutely extraordinary! I have experienced life with even more richness and wonder with you, my sweet little one year old. Even while I am not immune to thinking, “time has passed so quickly” or “you have grown so fast”, more than anything, it feels right. To think of all the moments and memories made with you, some held within your baby book and many that can never fit into one thousand baby books, it is a wonder they even fit within a year!

The wonder of a birthday is that it celebrates these very things. The simple wonder of life and the moments and memories it is able to hold. And that’s the treasure of wonder – it gives depth and breadth and richness and life to everything you behold. May you always wonder <3
