Truth Deep

So many times I think I am going to grow outward or expand in more knowledge, new information, more “Aha!” moments in my life, my faith, my relationship with God. These high emotional experiences are like leaves on a tree — growing and expanding outward. These moments, these leaves are beautiful and have purpose, yet, the leaves are not what sustain the tree. The point of the leaves are to grow the roots of the tree deeper, to collect the sunlight and direct the water. These leaves eventually fall away when their purpose is complete. The emotional “Aha!” moment experiences fade away, but the roots remain. They are solid and deep.

These roots are the simple truths — the Gospel. The simple truths you may have heard over and over since you were young are what continually grow deeper and sustain your life, your spirit, your joy.  They grow deeper into the soil, into the soil of your heart, like the roots of a tree — strong, deep, nourishing.

Though there are times when the wind blows and the ground is shaken, when we face difficult times, unexpected turns, or struggles in our life and in our faith, feeling the leaves have all blown off…what firmly remains are these simple yet so intricate truths of Christ. A tree never outgrows its roots. We never outgrow the Gospel. Simple Truths growing deeper.

…Christ died for our sins…He was buried, He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…He appeared to the Twelve. After that, He appeared to more than five-hundred… 1 Corinthians 15:3-6

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3

He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. 2 Samuel 22:20
