Patient in the Seasons
Fall is one of the most gorgeous times of the year. It’s like the climax of the story. The rising action bursting from spring and displaying itself throughout the summer has finally come to the point of change. And it’s dramatic. Just look around! The colors of the the leaves — who makes colors like that?! –reds, yellows, oranges, browns, purples YES purples… God does! The smells of fall, the sound of crunching leaves, the feel of a crisp mornings and cozy evenings, the tastes of apples and s’mores; hot chocolate and cider. Brilliant.
Seasons are amazing, especially in the Midwest. Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall — each so distinct and different, bringing their own personality and gifts, yet all intertwined, one leading to the next. Equally if not more amazing are the seasons of life. Each of our lives go through so many beautiful seasons. Childhood, teen, student, single, married, parent…having their own joys and challenges.
How often are we so eager to get to the next, so anxious for that climatic change of season? Why not enjoy the season? You know what, why not jump in the leaf pile than just look at it while passing by? Fully immersed with leaves sticking to you all over.
Patience in the seasons. The best parts of the season are what we enjoy about the season not what we are waiting for in the next. My favorite parts of Fall are when I am treasuring its wonders and appreciating each moment, each day, each smell, each changing leaf of the season. Even the sweetest moments of the season are when it’s coming to an end, approaching a change.
We only get this fall once. I only get the season of life I am in once. God is working in and through our lives in amazing ways through every season, but he gets to uniquely display himself in different ways within each season. I want to treasure that. I want to be fully engaged, living in the moment, filled with the wonders of His season and trusting Him in each.
We can also trust in our loving Father’s plan that he will bring us the miracle and beauty of changes in season. Better than we can imagine, each season is sweeter than the last because we have experienced the ones before. That’s exciting. We can be excited for the different seasons! Yet, the best moment He could possibly fathom for you is now. Isn’t that insane? Our Father loves us so much that He wants the absolute best for us in each moment, and despite our mindset or actions he will make it the best for us and bring Himself glory in it! And through each season HIM whose love and sacrifice for us never changes. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
Rest in this truth. Enjoy the moment. Be patient in the seasons.
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him
-Psalm 37:7
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
